Madame Marie’s Weekly Roundup: Toronto’s Best Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19 – July 2, 2020

The chances of Toronto entering Stage 3 of the province’s COVID-19 reopening plan are looking as bright as a summer’s day as the spread declines. In addition to takeout and delivery being offered at most restaurants, many patios are in full swing too (reservations required).

Here are this week’s picks.

ēst
729 Queen Street East
(416) 792-1000
estrestaurant.ca

Although you’ll have to wait for ēst to reopen to experience the full concept again, the restaurant offers a tiny glimpse into its culinary genius with the recent launch of a takeaway offering. Chef Sean MacDonald’s passion for soulful, satisfying food translates just as perfectly into takeout format, complete with detailed preparation instructions to make an epic meal chez vous. The rabbit ragout rigatoni, crafted from braised rabbit leg, rabbit sausage, rabbit offal and house cured pancetta, will not disappoint. Neither will the prawn in a shellfish bisque topped with crunchy corn nuts and delicate basil. New offerings are available each week to keep the city’s epicureans coming back. Be sure to browse the well-curated selection of local wines as well. Check out the menu.

Playa Cabana
111 Dupont Street
(416) 929-3911
playacabana.ca

This Toronto mainstay has been attracting Mexican lovers since opening in 2011. Thankfully, the O.G. of the Mas Playas restaurant group has been open for takeout and delivery throughout COVID-19. Diners can scarf down chicken tinga tacos, ancho braised beef short rib burritos, and some of the most authentic guacamole in the city. One thing’s for certain: whatever you order will pair nicely with their famous margaritas.

Chicken tinga tacos.

Rudy
619 College Street (and other locations)
(647) 748-7839
rudyresto.com

With three locations throughout the city, a cheeseburger from Rudy is quintessentially Toronto. The bare-bones menu has just two sandwiches and a handful of sides, but it’s impressed some of the best burger critics – and for good reason. The components of the Rude Dude, the best-seller at Rudy, are simple: a griddled double beef patty with melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato and Rudy sauce inside a soft bun. It’s the perfect, predictable and satisfying cheeseburger – best enjoyed with a side of fries and soda. All locations are open for pickup and delivery.

Bon appétit!

Bisous,
