Madame Marie’s Weekly Roundup: Toronto’s Best Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19 – April 16, 2020

Bonjour, Toronto!

Yesterday, April 15, was a very exciting day – the launch of Canada Takeout Day. People are being encouraged to put their pots and pans away and pick up their phones to order takeout or delivery from their favourite local eateries. Every Wednesday until our normal lives resume will be dubbed #TakeoutDay to show support for our restaurant industry during this pandemic. The initiative is backed by hundreds of restaurant owners, chefs and culinary leaders.

Allow me to entice you with this week’s takeout and delivery picks!

Twist Catering
91 Rylander Boulevard, Suite 6
(416) 724-7877

If you’re craving some soul-satisfying food, Scarborough-based Twist Catering is high on my list. Chef/owner La-toya Fagon, who was a personal chef to some of the Raptors, nails all the flavours in her culinary creations – from simple potato salad to spicy Jamaican snapper escovitch. And, she makes the best jerk chicken in Toronto. Period. You’ll be dreaming about this drum-smoked deliciousness beyond quarantine. Menus are posted to Instagram for curb-side pickup.

19 Gerrard Street East

The team at Wynona has pivoted its business model entirely. This east-end restaurant is offering meal baskets complete with fresh pasta, pantry items and, of course, du vin! They’ve partnered with local suppliers to put together a weekly list of meal kit items to help families with meal preparation without the hassle of heading to the grocery store. Minimum $100 order and $5 delivery fee. Check the website for weekly offerings.

This is the lamb pappardelle from Wynona. They’re now selling homemade pasta in weekly meal baskets.

Bunner’s Bake Shop

Toronto’s premier gluten-free and vegan bakery, Bunner’s, now offers GTA wide, zone-based delivery when you purchase items through their website. There’s nothing you can go wrong with here, so get a taste of everything with one of their combo boxes. However, a personal favourite is the Supersonic cookie!
