Madame Marie’s Weekly Roundup: Toronto’s Best Takeout, Delivery and Dining During COVID-19 – January 21, 2021

During the latest lockdown in Ontario, it’s my mission to support local businesses and share my latest takeout options with you.

I hope you’re hungry, Toronto! Here are this week’s takeout and delivery picks.

FK
770 St. Clair Avenue West
416-551-9731
fkrestauranttoronto.com

There’s nothing like a tender steak, succulent shrimp or a slice of creamy goat’s milk cheesecake to satisfy your appetite in lockdown. FK serves all of the above and more. Chef Frank Parhizgar and Shawn Cooper, the team that owned and operated Frank’s Kitchen, opened FK in St. Clair West in 2017. Although this casual fine dining restaurant has pivoted to takeout format during the pandemic, the attention to detail and exquisite taste exceeded my expectations. Although the rotating takeout menu isn’t posted online (you have to email the owners to see it), you’ll still find the spectacular dishes you know and love from this neighbourhood gem. Crab cakes with tartar sauce, dry aged striploin and frites, and espresso chocolate ganache were highlights. A three-course prix fixe meal with optional add-ons is $60 per person. I can assure you that every cent is worth it.

Filosophy Pastry and Espresso Bar
912 Bloor Street West
416-901-9171
filosophy.ca

This modern Greek café in Bloorcourt Village boasts a cozy vibe with a floor-to-ceiling exposed brick wall and a chalkboard with inspirational messages and quotes. You’ll likely be here for the coffee, but visitors often have a dual motive — keeping the hunger at bay with an irresistible baked good (the vast selection makes it impossible to choose just one!). If you need some inspiration, try a Greek pie that’s baked in house, such as spanakopita. Or, if you’re craving some sweetness, loukomades, deep-fried balls of pastry dunked in honey, are the way to go. Plenty of espresso-based beverages like lattes, macchiatos and Greek coffee with varying milk options are all available at this little slice of heaven.

Pho Phuong
1603 Dundas Street West
416)-536-3030
pho-phuong-restaurant.com

If you’re craving the savoury flavours of Vietnamese cuisine, Pho Phuong has you covered. Located on Dundas West, Pho Phuong has an extensive menu of over 150 dishes, which may seem overwhelming, but rest assured, there’s something for every palate. If you’re not convinced, place an order for Goi Cuon, fresh rolls stuffed with vermicelli and crunchy vegetables that are dunked in peanut sauce. A giant bowl of bun cha gio, which comes with vermicelli, grilled chicken and crispy spring rolls is also a crowd pleaser. Pho Phuong’s generous portions, delicious flavours and extremely reasonable prices are some of the many reasons why this is a neighbourhood takeout staple.

Bon appétit!
