Madame Marie’s Weekly Roundup: Toronto’s Best Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19 – March 26, 2020

Last week, I shared some of the ways we can support Toronto’s restaurants during COVID-19. One of them was ordering takeout/delivery. Several restaurants that are new to this type of operation are now providing delicious offerings to feed our city. And, with today’s news that Ontario can now sell alcohol with food takeout and delivery orders between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., why not add some much-needed levity to quarantine and pop a bottle!

In the absence of dining out, takeout and delivery is the next best option to break up your monotonous cooking routine, support local businesses, and fuel your body with soul-satisfying food.

Here are some of my top picks in Toronto this week.

Maha’s Fine Egyptian Cuisine

226 Greenwood Ave.
416-462-2703

This Toronto brunch institution is definitely drool-worthy. One of the best things about ordering takeout is that you don’t have to wait in the never-ending line. Call ahead between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., daily, for takeout only.

Check out my past review of Maha’s. I highly recommend the Cairo Classic!

Aloette

163 Spadina Ave.

If Alo is Canada’s best restaurant, Aloette is Canada’s best casual restaurant. And it’s now doing takeout and delivery. Last week, chef/owner of Alo Food Group, Patrick Kriss, launched pickup and delivery options through Ritual, DoorDash and UberEats. When I heard this news, I couldn’t wait to sink ma bouche into the best hamburger in the city and polish off a dreamy chocolate cheesecake smothered in raspberry sauce.

Maker Pizza

59 Cameron St. and 1537 Avenue Rd.

Who doesn’t love a carby, crowd-pleasing ‘za? Thankfully, pizza is still a mainstay in the delivery/pick up world, and Maker does their pies right. Both of their locations are offering curbside pickup and delivery. If you’re looking to switch things up, try the Cool Hand Zucc – an oh-so-satisfying white pizza.
